1 Peter 5:8-9
8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings
We’ve all been there. Things in our life are going great, we’re happy, everything seems to be falling into place, the light of God shines brightly and then out of no where, Satan floods our thoughts and we’re back to the place of darkness that we all know well. It seems like a never ending cycle, a cycle that continues to repeat itself every time we’re finally at a place of peace. Satan is waiting .. he is waiting for us to break and crumble at his feet. He is waiting in the shadows for the opportunity to steal our light and destroy our spirit. We begin to have an increasing amount of doubt about the direction we’re going, what we’re doing, and whether or not we’re ever going to be completely happy in life. Our moments of happiness are fleeting and we wonder if we’re ever going to experience true happiness or what true happiness entails. We walk around with a smile on our face only to feel torment and despair on the inside. It’s a constant battle; a war within ourselves to be free from Satan’s wrath.
6 You have put me in the lowest pit,
in the darkest depths.
7 Your wrath lies heavily on me;
you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.[a]
8 You have taken from me my closest friends
and have made me repulsive to them.
I am confined and cannot escape;
9 my eyes are dim with grief.
I call to you, LORD, every day;
I spread out my hands to you.
With God at our side, Satan will never defeat us. Satan wants us to sit in darkness and despair. He wants us to have feelings of resentment, bitterness, and wants us to believe things that aren’t true. Our minds are our worst enemy because every moment we have time to think is another moment when Satan uses that opportunity to consume our thoughts with negativity. We can choose to listen or we can learn to tune him out and call on God instead.
Blind in this place of darkness, if I fall would you be there to raise me up?
When we’re blinded in Satan’s darkness, God is there to raise us up. When we face feelings of despair, God is waiting to shine His light and love in our life. God is the light in our darkened world. When Satan steals our light, God is right behind Him shining his light brighter. We have to stay strong and remain steadfast in our faith. As long as we are firm in our faith and believe God’s Word, we will be saved from Satan and his wrath.
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
