You know how you can find out someone’s true colors? When you need them the most and they aren’t no where to be found. When someone has the capacity to walk away from you without hesitation, that’s how you know their true colors and what kind of person they truly are. It’s a hard truth to swallow, but that is why our relationship with God is important.

It’s simple, really. Our character and how we treat people should be a true reflection of God.  Admittedly, it’s not easy. Sometimes people are more intolerable than others and don’t make it easy to always be there. Truth is, we’re all flawed. We’re human. We’re emotional beings and invest too much time in others when we should be investing our time to God. Why do we invest so much time in others and not on God? We all want to be loved and appreciated for who we are, but truthfully, if we expect those things from others, we will be severely disappointed. It shouldn’t be that way, but that’s the reality.  Not everyone will disappoint you and not everyone will walk away. Those who choose to walk, walk for their own reasons and has no bearing of who we are in the eyes of God. God created us all in His image. It is in that image alone that should enable us and encourage us to lift others up when they have lost hope in life and in themselves. We should encourage others to stay strong when life takes its toll and runs its course.

God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knows our heart, he sees to our soul. He knows what kind of person we really are. We’re broken. Scarred. Scared. Searching. Lost. Hopeless. Hopeful. Happy. We’re all something. Most importantly, we are the creation of God. How we live and how we treat others has a tremendous impact on the kind of life we live and lead. No one in this life deserves to be treated poorly or unfairly. Everyone deserves a chance. When you give up on someone, you ultimately give up on yourself and on your faith. God commanded us to love and sharpen each other. We cannot continue the patterns in our life that involve turning our backs on the people that need us the most. That is not what God wanted.

Proverbs 27:17

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Philippians 2

1 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

We are the lights in the world. Our image and our colors should be representative of God and the life He lived.  Through our relationship with God we are able to recognize our strengths, understand our weaknesses, and ultimately understand who we are. If we are someone that has the tendency to give up on others, we need to ask ourselves why. We need to seek direction from God and make changes in ourselves that mirror His image. This is extremely imperative so we will be better and stronger in our faith and in our relationships we form with others.

Sometimes we are blind and don’t recognize someone’s true colors right away, we have the tendency to give people the benefit of a doubt. Ultimately, if someone genuinely cares about us and our well being, they will never find a reason to walk. They will only find reasons to encourage, up lift, and help in any way they can … the way God does for us consistently. It is that unconditional support that truly lacks in us. It’s unfortunate, but it doesn’t have to be. We need to understand our place and take a long hard look in the mirror to the person we are right now. If we are unsatisfied and unhappy with the way we are, we need to fix it. We need to be better people who embrace others in their pain. We need to be the person that God intended for us to be.

You with the sad eyes
Don’t be discouraged
Oh I realize
It’s hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small

But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that’s why I love you

God sees our true colors and He loves us regardless. Be the colors of the rainbow that shines through someone’s life and love with all you have.  Life is too short to do anything but the things God commanded us to do.
